The Google fonts project was started in 2010 and there’s now around 900 font families in the library. This should make choosing the perfect font pair easy, but so much choice makes it hard to know where to start! This collection of Google font combinations will help you find a stylish and trendy font pair that’s perfect for your next website or design project.

Each of our font pairs consist of a heading / display font and a body / copy font. We’ve also included a paragraph of body text to give you a better idea of how it will read on the page.

Oxygen and Source Sans Pro

Oxygen is mainly used as a body copy font, but choosing a bold weight transforms it into a stylish and modern display font that pairs beautifully with the easy readability of Source Sans Pro.

Josefin Slab and Maven Pro

Josefin Slab is a slab serif version of the Josefin Sans font and is inspired by the geometric typefaces of the 1920’s. As a display font, Josefin Slab is perfect to convey a retro or even slightly retro-futuristic vibe.

Maven Pro is clear and easy to read as body text, despite having a unique, slightly futuristic style. The lower case ‘m’ is a great example of its quirky nature.

Montserrat and PT Sans Narrow

Montserrat was inspired by old posters and signs in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of the same name. It has a retro, slightly art-deco style that shines through in many of the characters, particularly the ‘R’ and the ‘Q’.

PT Sans Narrow was designed as a dedication to the 300 year anniversary of Russian Tsar, Peter the Great. It manages to perfectly blend retro and modern elements and the narrow characters create a beautiful contrast with Montserrat.

Alfa Slab One and Gentium Book Basic

• Body / Copy: Gentium Book Basic

The bold, thick stems of Alfa Slab One are perfect for use in display type and will definitely grab your reader’s attention and make them take notice!

Gentium Book Classic is a stylish serif font that’s familiar to the eye and highly readable at small sizes. It creates a nice contrast with the in-your-face nature of Alfa Slab One.

Of all the Google font combinations on our list, this is the one to choose if you’re looking to make an impact.

Playfair Display and Chivo

Playfair Display has a sophisticated, traditional design and is a very popular choice for headings and display type. The beautifully intricate ampersand character is often seen in logos and blogs.

Chivo is also often used as display type but the lighter weights are highly readable and give a great visual contrast to the traditional old world style of Playfair Display.

This is a great Google font pairing for any application needing a big dose of sophisticated style.

Fjalla One and Noto Sans

• Body / Copy: Noto Sans

The flat sided narrow characters and thicker weight of Fjalla One make it a stylish choice for clean and bold headings that will stand out from the crowd.

Combined with the ultimate readability of Noto Sans, Fjalla One is a great choice for any modern design project.

Abel and PT Serif

Abel is a narrow san serif font with a modern feel that’s perfect for use as a display font. However, taking a closer look at the lower case characters reveals quite a unique personality – the terminal on the lower case ‘a’ is a perfect example.

The contrast between Able and the highly readable PT Serif font works great for a wide range of applications.

Montserrat and Lora

Lora is easy on the eyes and is a great choice for large amounts of body copy. It contrasts beautifully with the clean, simple, slightly retro style of Montserrat.

Raleway and Roboto Condensed

You can immediately tell from the ‘W’ character that Raleway has plenty of sophistication and is made for headings and display type.

The Roboto font family is extremely versatile and can be used successfully in almost any situation. The contrast between the narrower Roboto Condensed and the wider more generous style of Raleway makes this one of our favorite Google font combinations.

Great Vibes and Montserrat

Great Vibes is a flowing, feminine display font perfect for wedding invitations or anywhere formal elegance is required.

Combining the elegance of Great Vibes with the simple, clean lines of Montserrat for body copy makes for a striking visual contrast that works beautifully.

Parisienne and Source Sans Pro

Parisienne is an elegant connecting font that looks great as display type for wedding invitations and other formal or luxurious uses. It contrasts perfectly with the approachable, easy to read style of Source Sans Pro.

Teko and Montserrat

Teko is an ultra-modern display font that looks amazing in any font pairing situation needing a clean, modern or even slightly futuristic look. The contrast between Teko and the slightly more retro Montserrat looks awesome.

Playball and PT Sans

Playball is a connecting display font that’s elegant, but not as formal as Parisienne or Great Vibes. It works well in more casual situations like Baseball team logos or party invitations and contrasts nicely when paired with the highly readable PT Sans font.

Lora and Source Sans Pro

Lora is an easy to read serif font that’s mostly used for body text, but at larger sizes it also makes a stylish display font with a slightly unique style. The pairing of Lora and Source Sans Pro gives a satisfying contrast.

Dancing Script and EB Garamond

• Body / Copy: EB Garamond

We’ve chosen several Google font combinations that feature connected scripts, and Dancing Script is out favorite. It has a playful, free flowing style and pays homage to popular fonts from the 1950’s. Pairing it with the professional and familiar character of EB Garamond is a great choice.

Oswald is extremely versatile as a display font and works beautifully in any situation requiring a clean, modern look. The same can be said for Roboto, which makes this Google font combination look amazing.
